Alabama

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.

Connecticut

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.

January 2007: conducted a planning conference to provide technical assistance in the development of a statewide dropout prevention initiative, including implementation of a school based model.

April 2007: presented information about the effects of policies and procedures on school-completion efforts at State’s dropout prevention conference.

June 2007: NDPC-SD participated in a conference call with the CT Department of Education to discuss NDPC-SD’s possible role in their dropout prevention initiative, involving the development of three model sites. 

Florida

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.

January 2007: presented strand on dropout prevention at statewide Effective Strategies Institute.

February 2007 and onward: NDPC-SD staff presented to and met with Miami District leadership team and began planning district-wide training.

October 2007: trained teams from 55Miami Dade school systems on the use of the NDPC-SD Framework for dropout prevention. Center staff will work with the 20 PBS schools (grades K-12) in Miami Dade County to establish model sites at 3 schools (grades K-12) for dropout prevention.  Center staff developed dropout prevention training modules for M-DCPS EBD Clinical Staff which included Clinical and School Psychologists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Behavior Management Teachers, Counselors, and Art Therapists.

Georgia

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.

August 2006 and onward: working with Pioneer RESA on dropout prevention efforts. NDPC-SD Staff trained teams from 17 high schools using the NDPC-SD Framework for dropout prevention. Staff are currently working intensively with two high schools and establishing model sites for dropout prevention programs.

Ongoing since December 2006: the Center is working in a contractor capacity with the state of Georgia on their SPDG activities in dropout prevention.

Idaho

October 2006: NDPC-SD collaborated with NSTTAC and NPSO Centers to work intensively with teams from the Idaho and Utah Departments of Education on combining resources and efforts to address needs related to Indicators 1, 2, 13, and 14.

Iowa

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.

Indiana

August 2006: provided two content sessions at the Road to Results Transition Conference. The focus of the presentations was on transition services and implications for keeping students with disabilities in school.

Kansas

October 2006: presented dropout-prevention framework to group of state compliance and monitoring team. May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.

Maryland

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention. 2006 onward: working with Maryland State Department of Education on an ongoing initiative at the state level as well as at the local level.

June 2007: NDPC-SD collaborated with NSTTAC and NPSO Centers to work intensively with teams from the Maryland and Virginia Departments of Education on combining resources and efforts to address needs related to Indicators 1, 2, 13, and 14.

August 2006 and ongoing: Conducted planning meeting for continued focused technical assistance with the Maryland SEA. NDPC-SD will work with the state to develop its dropout prevention initiative, including an SEA dropout prevention guide, initial training to LEAs about the guides, and tailored TA to implement one evidence-based model.  

January 2007: Center staff presented materials about dropout prevention and school completion at the Maryland State Transition Coordinators’ Conference.

September 2007: Center staff provided a two-day-long, capacity-building training using the NDPC-SD’s Training Modules I-III. Participants included teachers and administrators from two Maryland counties, as well as staff from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The Center is planning with MSDE for the development of model program sites in two schools in these counties.

November 2007: Center staff will deliver Training Modules IV and V to the same group that was present for the September 2007 training. Additionally, MSDE and NDPC-SD staff will identify schools for participation in model program development work and will meet with teams from these schools.

Massachusetts

January 2006: provided, in conjunction with EDC, a day of technical for the MA/DOE and 12 districts of the MA Urban Project. Discussed Massachusetts’ State Performance Plan requirements and proposed state activities in the area of dropout prevention. Presented connections between dropout and related indicators and discussed a framework for systematically approaching dropout prevention.

Michigan

January 2005: trained department of education staff about dropout prevention research and programs. 

May 2005: reviewed school completion probes and narrative materials.

December 2006: presented dropout prevention strategies at statewide superintendent’s conference.

New York

June 2007: NDPC-SD moderated panel discussion and conducted follow-up feedback session at the PEPNET Regional Transition to Post -Secondary Education Summit in Rochester, NY.

North Carolina

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.

August 2007: NDPC-SD staff conducted a day-long workshop with DPI staff and six districts engaged in focus monitoring on graduation and dropout indicators in the 2006/2007 school year. Information was provided about causes, influence of policies and school practices, and evidence based interventions that could be used to address issues around behavior, attendance, building school connections, and increasing academic success. This information will assist districts in developing improvement plans required by focused monitoring.

Ohio

June 2005: reviewed school-completion probes and met with Ohio Department of Education staff regarding state dropout prevention efforts.

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.

Oklahoma

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.

October 2006: presented at State Superintendent’s Conference on data-driven strategies teachers and administrators can use to further school-completion efforts.

February 2007: collaborated with NSTTAC and NPSO Centers to work intensively with teams from the Oklahoma and Colorado Departments of Education on combining resources and efforts to address needs related to Indicators 1, 2, 13, and 14.

June 2007: NDPC-SD staff presented at Oklahoma statewide transition conference.

Oregon

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention. 

Pennsylvania

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.

June 2007: NDPC-SD attended meeting at the request of the PA Department of Education and the Pittsburgh Area School District to provide consultation regarding dropout prevention in Pittsburgh, PA. The Pittsburgh School District is preparing for a Dropout Prevention Task Force Meeting and requested assistance.

South Carolina

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.

November 2006: NDPC-SD staff presented to the South Carolina Transition Network.

June 2007: NDPC-SD staff presented to and met with the State of South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department, High School/High Tech program manager and staff to discuss a possible work plan and application of the NDPC-SD Dropout Prevention Framework.   

Utah

October 2006: NDPC-SD collaborated with NSTTAC and NPSO Centers to work intensively with teams from the Idaho and Utah Departments of Education on combining resources and efforts to address needs related to Indicators 1, 2, 13, and 14.

Virginia

June 2007: NDPC-SD collaborated with NSTTAC and NPSO Centers to work intensively with teams from the Virginia and Maryland Departments of Education on combining resources and efforts to address needs related to Indicators 1, 2, 13, and 14.

Virgin Islands

August 2007: NDPC-SD staff trained State Department of Education Division of Special Education staff and teachers from St. Thomas and St. Croix on the application of the NDPC-SD Framework for dropout prevention and dropout related factors, including evidence-based strategies and interventions.   

West Virginia

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention. 

Wyoming

May 2006: State team attended NDPC-SD State Capacity Building Forum and began development of a state work plan for dropout prevention.
