About NDPC-SD

The National Dropout Prevention Center for Students with Disabilities (NDPC-SD) supports the national implementation of provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to provide successful school outcomes for students with disabilities. NDPC-SD supports states in assisting local education agencies to increase school completion rates and decrease dropout rates among students with disabilities.

The primary business of our Center is two fold (1) to synthesize research and practice into actionable information that can be readily used by states to develop and/or enhance dropout prevention programs for students with disabilities, and (2) to provide effective technical assistance and dissemination activities to "scale up" the use of research validated programs and interventions in dropout prevention. We believe effective technical assistance to be a systematic process for transferring knowledge about dropout prevention research, practices that work, and policies to assist states and their stakeholders to accomplish goals and plan for systems change to reduce dropout rates and improve school completion rates for students with disabilities. As a proponent of increased sustainability of proven practices that improve results for youth with disabilities, NDPC-SD will employ various strategies to transfer this knowledge, including consultation, workshops, professional development institutes, electronic communications, and other Web-based resources. These and other dissemination strategies provide information to a wider audience of stakeholders who can use it.

Preventing dropout and improving school completion rates for students with disabilities is a critical and immediate national goal. The Center is privileged to be on the forefront of this national effort to improve educational outcomes for students with disabilities. Funding is awarded to the NDPC-SD by the Office of Special Education Programs of the U.S. Department of Education. We appreciate OSEP's commitment to, and support of nationally targeted resources to ensure that No Child is Left Behind, including youth with disabilities at risk for dropping out of school.
