Effective Models
Effective Models
Terms associated with effective programs or models are often confusing.
Programs may be described as model, exemplary, promising, effective,
or emerging. NDPC-SD uses the term model to describe a program
that has been subject to rigorous
and scientific evaluation, is research-based, and has been successfully
replicated in a variety of sites. Promising programs are those
that have shown positive outcomes for students, but have either
not been widely replicated or evaluated in a rigorous or scientific
matter. The third type of program is emerging. In most cases, an
emerging program has been effective in only one location, and has
little evaluation data. The programs listed below are rated as
model.

posted a series of reports on promising dropout prevention programs, including
ALAS and Check and Connect. These reports can be viewed at:

For additional programs that have proven
effective with general education students, please visit the National
Dropout Prevention Center/Network Programs
Database. Please note that many of the programs in the NDPC/N
database have not been rigorously and scientifically evaluated,
but they have had an impact on the dropout rate.
